Why isn’t my username and password working?

1. You are using the wrong username and password for the website or the software.

  • * The username that includes your customer number is used for accessing the Member Area on www.binverse.com
  • * The username that starts with “BNV” is used to access the Binverse software.

2. You entered the username or password incorrectly.

  • * Copy and paste your username and password directly from the emails sent during the signup process. Copying and pasting can help you avoid entering in the wrong information. Make sure you are not copying spaces with your username and password!

3. Software error message “Server log-in error: Please check username and password”.

  • * While rare, you may be trying to access Binverse during a maintenance period. From time to time the service may be unavailable so we can improve the software or hardware powering Binverse. Please wait a few minutes and try again.

4. You are behind an incorrectly configured firewall.

  • * Read your firewall’s configuration settings to allow access to binverse.com and to open up port 119.
  • * Contact Binverse for help.

5. Error message “You were logged out for security reasons”

  • * Start your internet browser and select “Tools/Internet options/Security”. Adjust the control bar to “medium” for the time you want to be logged in to www.binverse.com or click on “Standard” in case the control bar is not shown. In some cases you need to switch the icons in the dialogue box to “Internet” before you make the adjustment.

What is Usenet?

Usenet is a global network of servers hosting discussion groups called “newsgroups”. Each discussion group is dedicated to a specific topic. Members post and download messages to newsgroups just like many other forms of Internet discussion groups.

Unlike traditional Internet discussion groups, newsgroups allow members to post and download messages containing discussions or messages with attached files such as pictures, videos, or any other type of file.

Binverse provides you access to Usenet, software for downloading files from Usenet, and a search engine to find what is available on Usenet. Downloading from Usenet is super easy with Binverse and because files are stored on commercial grade servers with multi-gigabit Internet connections your downloads are always lightning fast.

What are binaries?

You may hear files hosted on the Usenet network referred to as “binaries”. This is just a term to describe any type of file (video, pictures, audio, etc.).

Many newsgroups may contain the word binaries in its name as an indication that the newsgroup contains files and not just text messages. For example alt.binaries.vacation-videos would be a newsgroup where members post vacation video files.
