I’m having trouble logging on. What should I do? "server log-in error"
There could be a number of reasons why you are not able to log on to the Binverse software or the Binverse website:
1. You are using the wrong username and password for the website or the software.
- The username that includes your customer number is used for accessing the Member Area on
www.binverse.com
- The username that starts with "BNV" is used to access the Binverse software.
2. You entered the username or password incorrectly.
Copy and paste your username and password directly from the emails sent during the signup process. Copying and pasting can help you avoid entering in the wrong information.
3. Software error message “Server log-in error: Please check username and password”.
While rare, you may be trying to access Binverse during a maintenance period. From time to time the service may be unavailable so we can improve the software or hardware powering Binverse. Please wait a few minutes and try again.
4. You are behind an incorrectly configured firewall.
- Read your firewall’s configuration settings to allow access to binverse.com and to open up port 119.
- Contact Binverse for
help
5. Error message "You were logged out for security reasons"
Start your internet browser and select "Tools/Internet options/Security". Adjust the control bar to "medium" for the time you want to be logged in to

I can’t establish a connection to the news server.
You need to grant full access to the TCP ports 119 and 443 in your local security settings. Please see the FAQ´s of your security software or contact your firewall/anti-virus software manufacturer to find out how to enable these ports.
If you continue to experience difficulties, please contact our

Check for typos in your username and password.
Please make sure that your Binverse-software username and password have been entered correctly (case sensitive).

Ask your own questions.
Does Binverse work on Linux and Mac operating systems?
The Binverse client itself is a software for Windows only. But as our product only provides the access to the usenet, you can use every other newsreader.
You may like to search online for "Mac Newsreader" in order to find a newsreader that fits your needs.
Change the servername in the set up of your newsreader to news.binverse.com, use port 119 and add "@binverse.com" at the end of your username (bnv-xxxxxxxx@binverse.com).

Error Messages
"Your download limit has been reached" What do I do?
This error is displayed if you have used all of your Quantum Leap high-speed downloads for the current month. You can try one of two things…
1. Download in Unlimited standard mode until the end of the current month when your Quantum Leap download limit will reset.
2. Reset your download limit manually by visiting the “My Plan” section of the Binverse website once you are logged on.
If you purchased a multi month plan from Binverse you can reset your download limit for this month right in the Binverse software. Please note, that by resetting your download limit you will reduce your service period by one month and you will lose any remaining downloads for this month. Binverse recommends that you wait until you have used almost all of your Quantum Leap downloads before resetting your account.

Searching, Downloading and Posting
Why isn’t the text post or file I’m looking for available on Usenet?
If you’re not finding results for your search queries try the following…
1. Check your search phrase for typos.
2. Try a more broader or more detailed query
3. Open the “Search” tab in the Binverse software and try subscribing to more newsgroups. The Binverse search engine will only search groups you have subscribed to.
Other reasons you may not be finding results are…
1. The item was posted, but was posted longer than 200 days ago. Binverse connects you to Usenet servers with up to 200 days worth of storage.
2. The item you are searching for has been removed for Terms of Service violations.
3. The item you are searching for was never posted.
Ask your own questions.

I am having problems opening a file. What can I do?
Members may attach any type or size file they like to Usenet messages. This means that there are a very large number of file types attached to Usenet messages.
In place of providing exact tutorials on every file type that exists, Binverse has the following suggestions if you are unable to get a file to run…
1. If there is an “nfo” file with your download open this file in notepad. It may contain instructions on how to run the file on your computer.
2. Use a search engine like Google or Yahoo to search for the file extension and instructions on running the file on your computer.
Please check out our Quick Start guide for further instructions on managing some the various file types commonly posted to Usenet.

How do I post a message or file to a newsgroup?
Posting to newsgroups requires special posting software. You may use any posting software you like.
In order to post data you also need a one-time activation of your account. To get this activation please send a message with a significant subject to upload [at] binverse.com. The message should contain the following information:
- Username
- E-mail address which has been used upon registration
- Last three digits of the credit card entered during registration (does not apply for PayPal customers)
After activation simply enter your username and password into the settings of your posting software. Enter the server address news.binverse.com and use port 119 or 443.
Binverse recommends PowerPost for posting to newsgroups - http://www.powerpost.cjb.net/.
Please be aware that you have to be a member of BINVERSE for at least 30 days to be able to post to newsgroups.
Ask your own questions.
I don’t understand why my download is split into several files? What are RAR files?
In many cases large file attachments may be broken into several smaller files (typically using RAR files).
Members may do this with large file attachments because breaking large files into smaller parts can make things more reliable when uploading and downloading.
If your internet connection fails in the middle of a large download or upload, only a small part of the overall download will be lost and can easily be recovered (just the part you were downloading when your Internet connection failed).
Binverse makes it easy to deal with RAR files.
1. 1. Right click on the file under compact view and select "Download". The Binverse software will automatically download all the parts and put them together so all you see is the original file attachment.
2. If you have already downloaded all the RAR files for a large file attachment, go to “My Files” and double click on the first file in the series. Binverse will automatically put the files together so all you see is the original file attachment.
Ask your own questions.
How can I repair an incomplete file attachment? What is a PAR file?
As explained in “I don’t understand why my download is several files? What are RAR files?”, large file attachments may be split into several parts called RAR files. Binverse automatically helps you recombine these parts so that all you see is the original file attachment.
In addition to RAR files, some posts may contain PAR files.
If your download is corrupted and your file will not work, look for the PAR file under “My Files”. If you see this file double click on it and Binverse will automatically try to repair the file for you.
File Genius will also search for PAR files if your download is corrupted and use the PAR files to repair the download.

Quantum Leap Downloads
Why do Quantum Leap Downloads have a Gigabyte limit and how does this work?
You have two choices when accessing the Binverse service. You can download unlimited Gigabytes in our standard mode or a specific number of Gigabytes per month in Quantum Leap mode.
The package you signed up for on the Binverse website detailed how many Gigabytes per month of Quantum Leap downloads your account comes with. If you wish to see how much data your plan includes log on to our website and click on "My Plan".
Ask your own questions.
Are header downloads, chat or image previews counted against my Quantum Leap Downloads?
Only Usenet downloads are counted towards your Quantum Leap Downloads. Headers, chat and image previews will not count toward your download limit.
Ask your own questions.
Can I add more Gigabytes to my Quantum Leap Downloads?
If you have used all your available Quantum Leap downloads before the end of the month visit "My Plan" once you are logged on to the Binverse website. You will be able to reset your plan and your download limit. When you reset your plan you will be charged your next month’s fee, your download limit will be reset, and your bill date will change to the day of the month you initiated the resetting of your account.
If you have an annual or biannual account, your contract will reduce by one month when you reset your account. Read the details on the "My Plan" section of the Binverse website for more details.
Ask your own questions.
Do my unused Quantum Leap downloads carry over to the next month?
The Binverse service offers a set volume of high speed downloads every month and your unused Gigabytes don’t carry over to the next month.
Ask your own questions.
Where can I see how many remaining Quantum Leap downloads I have?
You can check your current download volume in one of two places:
1. In the Binverse software: Your remaining Quantum Leap download volume is shown in the upper right hand corner of the window and by clicking on the “Account” icon in the top navigation.
2. Click on “My Plan” once you are logged on to the Binverse website.
